What does a contactless card mean? No need to touch: contactless cards from Sberbank. Offers from Mastercard

The Savings Bank of Russia offers an innovative product - contactless payment cards. They have been tested since 2002, but only now are payment systems fully ready to work with the new technology. Contactless payment with a Sberbank card is possible only in places where a POS terminal is installed.

In fact, this is a debit card familiar to everyone, but with one-touch payment technologies. It contains a unique chip with a radio antenna (RFID) that transmits transaction data to the credit institution.

Sberbank's contactless cards require special equipment that supports wireless payment, usually they are marked with a special icon. To pay, you do not need to enter a security code or insert a card into the receiver, you just need to bring the plastic to the device. If there is none, the card works according to the standard scheme.

Some clients of the Savings Bank reacted with suspicion to the innovation, fearing for the safety of their finances. It is for this purpose that the developers have introduced a payment limit of one thousand rubles. If you exceed it, you will have to enter a PIN to make a purchase.

How to recognize contactless cards

The contactless card differs from the classic debit card by a unique badge applied to the plastic surface. Otherwise, everything is the same: on the front side the personal data of the owner and the number are displayed, on the back side there is a protective three-digit CVV code.

With the help of contactless cards, like ordinary ones, in the territory of the Russian Federation and abroad, you can:

  • make money transfers;
  • pay for purchases on the Internet or in a store;
  • remotely manage finances through Sberbank Online or Mobile Bank.

You can replenish the balance in cash or non-cash.

It is impossible to disable contactless payment on plastic, it is disabled directly on the phone with the Android operating system.

How does it work

To make a payment using a contactless card, you need:

  • check the amount to be paid;
  • put the plastic close to the terminal or bring it to the device by 0.5-1 cm;
  • the display will immediately show the inscription "Approved" and a characteristic signal will sound. If the amount of the payment exceeds one thousand rubles, you will need to enter a PIN code.

You don't even have to take the card out of the wallet, the terminal will still read it and make a transaction.

Now you can pay in a similar way in many shopping centers and catering places. Muscovites can pay for travel using the Troika application.

How to get a card

Sberbank offers its customers two contactless payment options - PayWave and PayPass. The first is used for the Visa payment system, the second is for MasterCard.

To become the owner of an innovative product, you must:

  • choose the type of plastic;
  • apply to the office of a credit institution with a passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation (to issue a debit card);
  • submit a certificate of income and a duplicate work record book (for obtaining a credit card).

Any citizen over fourteen years old who has a permanent or temporary residence permit in the Russian Federation can become the owner of a contactless card.

Product advantages

The innovation is in increasing demand among the clients of the Savings Bank, because:

  • It is simple and convenient to use. You do not need to insert a card into the terminal, enter a security code and sign receipts, this is an important moment during shopping, when your hands are full of numerous packages.
  • The transaction takes place within a few seconds, since the information immediately goes to the credit institution.
  • You can disable contactless payment from a Sberbank card on an iPhone in one of two ways: by deleting the application or by disabling the NFC module in the smartphone settings.
  • The risk of technical failure (gripping, demagnetization) is minimized, because the card is not in contact with the terminal.
  • Has a high level of security. Plastic is always in hand, so scammers cannot copy or read information and gain access to finance.

Since practically no mechanical impact is exerted on the card during use, its service life increases several times.

Cons of a contactless card

Like any product, contactless cards have their drawbacks. Their owners sometimes face the problem of lack of the necessary POS terminals in retail outlets. These devices are not cheap, but every month there are more and more of them.

Unfortunately, the system does not provide 100% protection against fraudsters. There have already been reports of fake RFID readers, with the help of which the swindlers steal money from the accounts of citizens. For additional security, use special cases, wallets or bags that shield radio waves from your card.

Some consumers are dissatisfied with the established limit of one thousand rubles, which is often not enough to pay for purchases and it is necessary to enter a PIN-code, and this puts innovative cards on a par with the usual banking product.

7. If it was not possible to pay for the fare with a contactless bank card: the main reasons. What to do?

If your card is not accepted for payment of travel at the terminal, even if you have successfully paid with this card before, this may be due to the following reasons:

  • Your bank card is not equipped with contactless payment technology. In this case, the terminal does not respond to the presentation of a bank card. Make sure the card is marked with a PayPass or PayWave icon or text.
  • The card is in the stop list. This means that a trip was made on this card for which no funds were debited. Thus, the trip remained unpaid, and the card was in arrears. This can happen due to insufficient funds on the card at the time of payment, blocking of the card by the bank, or technical problems when executing a request to withdraw funds. Try to pay off the debt through the Passenger's Personal Account.
  • Card reading error / card damaged. This can happen due to the following reasons: several cards are applied at the same time, mechanical damage to the card (chip or internal antenna), the card was taken away from the reader too quickly, in rare cases the problem may be caused by technological incompatibility between the card and the reader. In case of refusal due to a card reading error, try to pay with this card again.
  • The card has expired. If your card has expired, please contact the bank to reissue the card for a new validity period or open a new contactless card.

Attention! Some contactless bank cards, including those issued outside the Russian Federation, cannot be used to pay for travel due to technical features.

8. If it was not possible to pay for the fare with a contactless bank card in a mobile phone or other device with contactless payment technology. What to do?

If your card in a device with NFC technology is not accepted to pay for travel at the terminal, even if you have successfully paid with this card before, this may be due to the following reasons:

  • Card reading error. In case of refusal due to a card reading error, try to pay with this card again.
  • The card has expired. If your card has expired, please contact the bank to reissue the card for a new validity period or open a new contactless card and link it to your mobile device.
  • The card is in the stop list. This means that a trip was made on this card, for which the funds were not debited. Thus, the trip remained unpaid, and the card was in arrears. This can happen due to insufficient funds on the card at the time of payment, blocking of the card by the bank, or technical problems when executing a request to withdraw funds. To withdraw a card from the stop list when paying with a token, you must send an appeal to or contact the Strelka Hotline 8 800 100-77-90

9. Unpaid travel and debt repayment

If the card was used to register travel, but for some reason the funds were not debited, then the card is automatically added to the stop list of the transport system. The card cannot be used within the framework of the transport system until the arrears of the fare are paid off. When trying to register a passage, the terminal displays the message “Card in the stop list”.

The trip amount may not be debited from the card for the following reasons: lack of sufficient funds on the card, blocking of card transactions by the issuing bank, or technical problems when executing a request for debiting funds.

If the attempt to write off the amount from the card in order to carry out transactions within the system was unsuccessful, the system will automatically continue attempts to write off the amount from the card until a positive result is achieved.

You can get information about unpaid trips, as well as pay off the debt in the Passenger's Personal Account.

The card is automatically removed from the stop-list within 10 minutes from the moment the System Operator receives information from the credit institution about debt repayment. To use such a card in the terminal, the carrier must ensure that the stop list is updated.

10. Feedback

You can ask a question about the service or report a problem by writing a letter to.

Contactless payment with your card greatly facilitates the transaction process. Now the user often does not even need to take out the payment instrument from his wallet: it is enough to simply bring the wallet to a special terminal, having previously confirmed the current operation.

What is the name of the contactless card payment services? It all depends on the payment system that you are used to using and consider the most optimal for yourself.

Popular banking systems - Visa and Mastercard - have already managed to introduce similar technologies into their range of services. These are Visa payWave and MasterCard Contactless systems, also known as MasterCard PayPass.
Popular electronic money systems are also keeping up with their counterparts by introducing progressive transaction systems. For example, we are talking about services such as Yandex money and Qiwi.
There are also known joint projects between various services. For example, not so long ago a joint Visa and Qiwi application was created - Visa Qiwi Wallet. This service works through and can be used using a smartphone, tablet or personal computer.

The flagships of the smartphone market - Apple, Anroid and Samsung - also have their own payment systems. They are named, Anroid Pay and Samsung Pay, respectively, and are suitable for users of mobile devices from these manufacturers.

Contactless card payment method

The technologies we are considering are based on the use of either RFID RFID chips or NFC short-range communication chips. In this case, transactions can be made both through credit and debit cards, and through smartphones that are now common. Special chips are installed even on ordinary key chains.

What is contactless payment with a bank card is well understood by many modern people, even at an intuitive level. The main thing is that the payment instrument you are using is equipped with the necessary chip, and there is also a payment terminal nearby. You can find out by a special wave-shaped sign on your bank card, as well as on special equipment for transactions.

How to use new technologies and pay with a contactless card? Everything is very simple: check the transaction amount on the terminal, bring the payment instrument to the special equipment with the wave icon and wait for confirmation of the withdrawal of the required amount from your account.

How to set up nfc for contactless phone payments?

I talked about this in great detail separately and in great detail. I'll tell you briefly here. First of all, you should make sure if your smartphone supports this technology. It is worth paying attention to the operating system on the device: for Visa Qiwi Wallet, Android version 4.4 or higher is suitable. On the official website of this technology, anyone can find a detailed list of models that support the application in question. The list includes many famous brands, including:

  • Samsung Galaxy;
  • Sony Xperia.

To configure, you need to download the application to your device and link them to each other using SMS confirmation. The security of using this technology is ensured by a user-created login password, as well as a key loaded into the application, also called a transaction cryptogram. To increase security when making large transactions in excess of the limit of 1000 rubles, an additional PIN code is required.

Payments based on contactless technologies significantly save the user's time when making transactions. Such methods are used in most modern stores. Also, such a system is supported by some transport cards, parking meters and gas stations.

MasterCard PayPass and Visa payWave contactless cards - bank cards that allow you to quickly pay for purchases up to 1,000 rubles... A special chip with a radio antenna (FRID) is built into the plastic card, through which information about the payment is transmitted to the bank. To use this technology, you need a POS terminal.

Cards with Sberbank's contactless payment technology can be used as usual. If there is no contactless reader, the card works too.

Contactless cards are easy to use in the updated terminals equipped with NFC technology.

This technology in ATMs allows you not to insert the card into the device: you just need to bring the card to a special reader, enter the pin code and carry out the desired operation. To confirm the operation, you will also need to enter a pin code. This principle of operation reduces wear and tear on the card due to the absence of unnecessary contacts with terminals. Also, all contactless transactions are protected by the EMV standarddesigned specifically to increase the security of financial transactions.

It is very easy to find out an ATM that supports contactless operation: either the screen displays "Attach a card", or the device is equipped with an NFC reader.

Sberbank has already equipped more than 20,000 ATMs and terminals with similar technologies. The company plans to increase this number to 60,000 by the end of 2018.

Step-by-step instructions for using cards with contactless payment technology

To pay for a product or service, you need:

  1. Check the exact amount to be paid.
  2. Bring the card to the POS terminal with either side for 2-3 seconds.
  3. The fact of payment is confirmed by a special sound signal and an inscription on the screen "Approved" or "Paid".
  4. Payment will be made even if you bring the wallet with the card to the terminal.
  5. If you use contactless cards outside the Russian Federation, the amount limits must be checked with the cashier.

How to recognize contactless cards

Contactless plastic cards differ from ordinary cards by a special sign.

Their capabilities are the same as any bank card:

  • convenient storage of funds;
  • replenishment of the account in cash and by bank transfer;
  • payment for services and purchases on the Internet, shopping centers, catering buildings. With the help of the special Troika application in the capital, you can pay for travel;
  • making money transfers;
  • use of the card, both on the territory of the Russian Federation and abroad;
  • issue of additional cards with contactless payment technology;
  • remote use services "Sberbank Online" and "Mobile Bank";
  • connection of auto payment;
  • linking to electronic wallets;
  • bonus program "Thank you from Sberbank".

Benefits of contactless cards

  • Convenience.
  • You can pay for the goods without removing the card from the wallet and without inserting it into the terminal.
  • You do not need to enter the PIN to perform the operation.
  • There is no need to hand over the card to the cashier.
  • Can be used in conventional terminals or ATMs.
  • Accepted in over 30 countries.
  • The speed of use is instant.
  • The exchange of information with the bank takes place instantly, so the payment is made in a few seconds.
  • Safety.
  • The card number and other data are not visible to anyone.
  • The card remains only in your hands.

Contactless cards are less likely to be exposed to mechanical stress and during the operational period do not change their original appearance.

Disadvantages of contactless cards

The main disadvantage of contactless payment is expensive equipment, which not all organizations want to install themselves in order to avoid additional expenses. Hence, the coverage of services and trade is not so wide: it is not possible to pay with contactless cards in all stores.Nevertheless, all large stores and organizations already have POS terminals at their disposal, which allows them to outperform less progressive competitors, which means that they will also have to install contactless payment tools.

The next disadvantage is security. There are already known cases when fraudsters made their own reading devices, which it was enough to bring to the card in order to make a write-off from it. Therefore, the owners of contactless cards should be more careful, keep the card in a special case or out of the reach of strangers in the bag to reduce the likelihood of money theft. Moreover, if you lose your card and do not notice the loss in time, then the finder will be able to use all your funds in several retail outlets without making purchases worth more than a thousand rubles. Therefore, if you notice the loss of your card, you must block it as soon as possible.

The last drawback is the limit. If you regularly make purchases worth more than a thousand rubles, then contactless payment will be useless for you, since you will also have to manually enter a PIN code to confirm the payment. This negates all the advantages of such cards and makes them simply a more vulnerable banking product.

Where to use MasterCard PayPass and Visa payWave

You can use contactless payment in most supermarkets, shopping centers and popular cafes or restaurants. Payment can be made where the MasterCard PayPass or Visa PayWave logo is installed. If the payment terminal does not have a contactless payment function, then you can pay with a card by simply entering a pin code.
The current list of organizations that support contactless payments can be found on the MasterCard and Visa websites.

Types of Visa PayWave cards

Contactless payment is supported by absolutely all issued cards of Sberbank.

You can choose from a variety of options provided to suit different needs:

  • Classic Visa and MasterCard from Sberbank Contactless is characterized by a set of ordinary services. Annual service cost - 750 rubles. The limit is 150,000 rubles per day. There is a possibility of issuing additional cards to the main one.

The card has a protective electronic chip, annual service cost - 3,500 rubles, limit - 300,000 rubles / day. The possibility of issuing additional cards is available.

Registration of contactless cards

Sberbank offers to issue contactless cards of two technologies: PayWave and PayPass, which are developed for Visa and MasterCard payment systems, respectively. The contactless payment technology is supported by absolutely all Sberbank cards, therefore, your choice is not limited to a specific set of cards.
To apply for a contactless card, you need to take three simple steps:

  1. Choose the card that suits you;
  2. Contact the nearest branch of Sberbank with a passport. You can find a list of all departments at the link.
  3. Sign an agreement on the provision of banking services and the provision of a card;
  4. Wait for an SMS message from the bank about the readiness of the card. As a rule, registration takes up to 10 days.

If you decide to apply for a credit card, then, in addition to a passport, you will also need certificates of income and work experience.

We have told you all the basic information about contactless cards. Below you can find the Sberbank Cardholder's Memo, which describes all the main points of using bank cards. (Attachments)

Contactless payment technology is a new product that allows you to make purchases with one touch. Sberbank was one of the first to actively introduce innovation in May 2017, and to date, the volume of payment instruments with an embedded NFC chip exceeds 15 million (which is 11% of the total number of cards issued by a credit institution).

The Bank also continues to pursue a modernization policy in relation to the POS-terminal network, making them suitable for the new technology.

The organization's management notes that by using Sberbank's contactless cards, their owners will reduce the amount of time spent on standard payment for purchases. It is expected that now the new cards issued by the institution will be contactless.

Features of contactless technology

Sberbank's contactless bank card is in a sense a standard card, but a special technology is built into it. With its help, you can make quick purchases, the amount of which does not exceed the mark of 1000 rubles (otherwise, you need to enter the secret code).

The plastic contains an NFC (Near Field Communication, translated as "near field communication") chip, which transmits information about the past payment to the bank via radio channels.

To actively use this innovation, it is necessary to have a device that could receive radio signals. Therefore, you can pay with an NFC card only in places where POS terminals are installed.

Features of the procedure

Payment with a contactless card has a distinctive feature: to make a purchase, you do not need to put the card in an outdated terminal and enter the PIN-code, you just need to attach it to the reader.

Step-by-step instructions for the payment procedure:

  1. Check that the displayed amount is correct.
  2. Touch the card to the reading POS terminal.
  3. Wait until the “Approved” message appears on the screen and a beep sounds.
  4. Remove the card.

Today, you can contactlessly pay for purchases in any shopping center, fitness club, supermarket, cafe or restaurant. And in a number of large cities of Russia with this card you can pay for a ticket by installing the Troika application, which is available on both Android and IPhone.

The main advantages of contactless technology

Sberbank's NFC card is rapidly gaining popularity in the Russian market due to a number of significant advantages.

Among them:

  1. Comfort. It is convenient to use the cards, since there is no need to insert them into the terminals, it is enough just to attach them to a special device. It is noteworthy that they do not even have to get out of your wallet or business card holder. This helps out when paying payments when your hands are busy with all sorts of packages.
  2. Simplicity. Now there is no need to memorize PIN-codes and constantly enter them. To make a purchase, you just need to take your card with you and attach it to the terminal.
  3. Instant payment processing. Any money transactions are carried out very quickly, without taking away precious time from the owner of the debit card.
  4. Reduction of technical errors. The contactless technology will keep you safe: since the plastic ceases to have direct contact with the terminals, the possibility of demagnetizing the black magnetic strip is reduced. The service life is increased.
  5. Safety. By making a one-touch payment, you can protect your card details from illegal photographing and reading devices used by fraudsters.

Main disadvantages

Although contactless cards have a number of undeniable advantages, they also have disadvantages:

  1. Impossibility to use. Creating maps is straightforward, but not all terminals are capable of supporting them. This is the main circumstance that prevents the mass distribution of contactless programs and technologies.
  2. Limit. To save customers, special payment restrictions have been introduced, above which it is impossible to pay with a card. This is due to the fact that the system cannot guarantee absolute protection against hackers and intruders. There have been precedents when fraudsters used homemade RFID readers to steal money from people. Therefore, you cannot disable this protective option.

If cybercriminals manage to steal a payment method, they will be able to safely make purchases that do not exceed 1,000 rubles, since this does not require a secret code.

What a contactless card looks like

Outwardly, the card is no different from ordinary types; it can be identified by the presence of logos and symbols.

For example, the universal logo of MasterCard and Visa contactless payment cards is a wave icon, similar to an inverted Wifi icon.

The front side contains the following information:

  • FULL NAME. owner.
  • Validity.
  • Distinctive sign.

On the reverse side, like the contact card, the CVV-code is displayed.

What she possesses:

  • The ability to store funds.
  • The ability to write off and replenish current accounts.
  • The ability to pay for purchases.
  • Possibility of money transfers.
  • Management of monetary assets through special Internet services and Sberbank programs.

What "plastic" of Sberbank supports the technology?

Now Sberbank is re-issuing and offering new customers to become the owner of a Mastercard or Visa contactless payment card. Also, not so long ago, an alternative appeared to pay with the Mir Sberbank contactless card, which are also equipped with this technology.

There are the following types of Visa cards:

  1. Visa Classic. Classic visa has a basic set of options, the cost of the first year of use is 900 rubles, then it is reduced to 600 rubles.
  2. Visa Gold from Aeroflot is of two types: debit and credit. Its peculiarity is the ability to receive bonus miles, which can later be used to pay off when buying airline tickets from Aeroflot and SkyTeam. You can apply for it at any branch of the bank, and one thousand welcome miles will be immediately credited to the account. Service costs 3500 rubles / year. Holders of these cards also have access to a variety of discount programs from the World of Privileges. Credit limit - 600 thousand rubles.
  3. Visa Platinum. Opens access to the services of Sberbank Premier, provides many pleasant bonuses.
  4. "Gift a life". Within the framework of this program, a fixed share of purchases made is transferred to a charitable account of an organization that provides material assistance and support to children with oncology. Annual service - 15 thousand rubles for the first calendar year, then reduced to 10 thousand rubles per year. The cardholder enjoys any advantages and bonuses: enhanced protection against fraudsters, an insurance program, an increase in the warranty period, support abroad and other privileges.

Offers from Mastercard:

  1. MasterCard Classic is a classic debit card. Has a list of standard options. The use will cost 900 rubles for the first calendar year, then it is reduced to 600 rubles.
  2. MasterCard Premier - provides full access to Sberbank Premier services. It is noteworthy that one person can issue no more than 5 means of payment for himself or his relatives.

Today you can exchange, issue or replace contactless payment means at a branch of Sberbank convenient for you. It is only necessary to submit an application in advance, which can be drawn up in writing at a banking institution or sent an application online via the Internet.

If you are the owner of an ordinary contact bank card, you can also contact the branch with a request to replace it with a contactless one. In this case, the personal account remains unchanged.

Can contactless payment be disabled?

Despite the fact that the contactless payment method is gaining popularity, many are suspicious of this innovation. Which is justified due to the high level of various banking crimes. For your own peace of mind, contactless payment on the card can be turned off, but you should make sure if it is necessary.

There are two ways to disable the contactless payment feature:

  1. Removing the corresponding application on the phone (the official program of Sberbank, available on IOS and Android).
  2. Disable NFC chip in phone settings. To do this, open the "Wireless networks" section in the settings and switch the module to the off state.

Both of these options will eliminate contactless payments. It is noteworthy that by removing the application from the gadget, you do not need to disable the NFC module. Contactless payment will already be deactivated.

You can connect contactless payment at any time. To do this, you do not need to contact the bank for help, just reinstall and configure the application or switch the module into operation mode.

Contactless payment via smartphone

Another innovative offer of Sberbank for its customers is the ability to make payments using a smartphone. Thanks to this innovation, there is no need to take an outdated plastic card everywhere. The telephone will act as a payment instrument. To carry out transactions, the same NFC technology is used, which contains the principles of radio communication with a certain coverage area.

To pay bills by phone, you need to:

  • The gadget had an NFC chip;
  • A special application was installed;
  • Readers were installed at the place of payment.

The procedure is as follows: the smartphone is brought up to the device and wait until the transaction is completed. As a rule, the exchange of information between the bank and the terminal takes place instantly, it does not take more than 1-2 seconds.

You can find out if your smartphone supports NFC technology yourself. Check its case or battery: if they have an NFC icon (wave icon), then the technology is supported. Also, you can "rummage" in the settings and determine.

The following contactless systems are currently operating in Russia:

  1. Sumsung Pay. This system is supported by 6 phone models, which is an absolute record (other developers cannot boast of such an abundance of counterparties). The pricing policy of the companies supporting this technology is quite democratic, smartphones can be purchased at a reasonable cost. Also, the application has an image of a magnetic stripe, which makes it possible to use it in standard terminals.
  2. Apple Pay. Sberbank is the first and only Russian bank to cooperate with Apple. The application is supported exclusively by original flagship smartphones from the sixth version (Apple Iphone 6). No more than 4 devices can be tied to the system; a scanned fingerprint is required for operation.
  3. Android Pay - this payment system is a Google development, it is embedded in gadgets based on Android. Among the advantages are: a wide variety of partner banks; automatic linking of savings and discount cards; the opportunity to participate in bonus programs.

All systems are similar in functionality, transaction methods and security systems. The setup algorithm is the same: you need to install the application corresponding to the phone model; put the NFC module in the settings in active mode.

Contactless payment via cards or smartphones still seems incredible and untrustworthy. A certain proportion of Russians are skeptical about innovative technology, but this mistrust is gradually subsiding, and, perhaps, in the near future, this method of payment will become firmly entrenched in everyday life.
